About Her

The horse...

The Mares "Stats"
Full Name: Bahada Irish Story
Barn Name: Bahada
Age: 13
Height:15.2h.h.
Color: Flea Bitten Grey
Breed: Appendix QH
Other: She LOVES sugar cubes, is very opinionated and has a wonderful but tempermental personality. She likes hacking out in the upper pasture and enjoys jumping. Occasionally she likes to get out of the pasture and help herself to some the "good grass" and during the winter she likes to escape across the pond if she can *sigh*... She's fabulous. :)

Well this is a long story.  Where to start?

Well it all started because my parents were finally going to let me get my own horse.  The horse i was leasing was approaching the end of his competitive days and wouldn't hold up on a XC course, so we started looking around.  The owner of the horse i really wanted decided to keep the horse, and then we had money issues... so buying any horse was out of the question. I guess the one horse not working out was a good thing since we would've had to sell him- but it was just annoying and emotionally stressful :(.

So my trainer told me about this unruly ragged looking appendix at her barn that had evented a few years ago at novice so that the owner could sell her.  Someone at the barn bought her and then never rode her because of time restictions and the fact that the mare is VERY opinionated which made riding not too pleasent for both parties.  The horse had become dead in the mouth and a very NOT FUN horse to ride since she constantly tossed her head and bucked.  So I got to work with her! What fun :).  She had a decent jump in her, and dressage will come as I figure things out.  I leased her for 2 years and finally bought her in December 2003.

^A picture from day one^ isn't she just a chubby lil' thing!

We are currently competing at Training level eventing and first level dressage with our eyes on prelim and 2nd level... we shall see. We attempted two prelims this year.  Our first one we completed with an E and a fall on course, but did manage to make it around.  Our second one went much better! One stop on course at a big table 3 from the finish- she got an icky spot, so i don't blame her for stopping! I was proud of both of us for getting around.  No one thought we could do it... but, we did. :)

She's a very particular mare, and if you don't ride her nicely, she gets annoyed real easily. If there's anything that holds us back it's her temperment... and, well, my inability to ride properly- but i'm getting better! We both are. Our main issue, however, is dressage IN THE SHOW RING.  outside we can have really good days, and our warm ups at shows are usually fabulous... It's in the ring that we have problems. can we say, tense??? we're workin on it though.  She has become a lot more compliant, and we are getting somewhere. I think she really enjoys her job. She's a wonderful horse and I would not trade her for anything!

**I Love My Mare**

These are the moments,
I thank God that I'm alive
These are the moments,
I'll remember all my life
I found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more

I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
Every prayer has been answered
Every dream has come true
Yea right here in this moment
is right where I'm meant to be
Here with you here with me -- yeaaaaaa

These are the moments,
I know heaven must exist
These are the moments,
I know all I need is this
I found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
